Abstract
To evaluate the positive rate for allergen in the patients with allergic diseases, skin tests for allergens in 705 patients who visited a general hospital from March 1996 to August 1997 was done.
The percentage of patients who were positive to any one of allergen tested was 60.9%. The positive rate for dusts and mites(43.4%) was the highest, 40.0% for pollens, 19.6% for animal danders and 3.1% for molds.
Those for Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and Dermatophagoides farinae were 32.1% and 28.5%. Of pollens, those above 10% were wormwood(14.9%, the highest), alder(14.2%), mugwort(13.6%), birch(12.3%), chrysanthemum(12.3%) and ragweed(11.6%) followed in order. The positive rate for cat fur(15.7%) was the highest among anima danders.
The positive rate for dust and mite in men(51.4%) ,vas significantly higher than in women(36.4%)(p<0.01). Those for dust and mite, pollen and animal dander were significantly decreased with incresing age(p<0.05). Of al] patients with asthma, allergic rlunitis and urticaria, dusts and mites was the most common allergen, however, in patients with conjunctivitis and seasonal rhinitis, the pollens ~; was. In perennial type of patients with asthma and rhittitis, the rate for dust and mite was the highest, however, in seasonal type the rate for pollen was the highest. And those for mite and dust(51.5% versus 40.2%) and animal dander(26.3% versus 17.0%) in patients of apartment were significantly higher than in patients of house(p<0.01).
Above findings suggest that the further research on the higher positive rates for dust and mite and animal dander among patients who are living apartment should be done.
